Primrose Doll by All About Ami

Hey everyone I am here to share a little something different today. As a “maker” I technically like to do my own thing….BUT…I also love to support other makers by buying their patterns or just making items they design. Stephanie of All About Ami is probably the first crochet blogger I followed and continually went back to for things I wanted to make. She is what I would call the queen of cardigans when it comes to handmade knit and crochet garments. She also does an amazing job with amigurumi. What is amigurumi? Well it is the Japanese word for small crocheted or knitted stuffed toys.

Now I don’t often make stuffed toys for my kids because it honestly pains me a bit to take so much time to make these items and see them “play” with them. Wiping their boogers on them or throwing them I mean it just is the worst and I become overprotective when I make things. Just sayin…..

The first amigurumi I made from her website was this elephant. If you know me well I LOVE elephants….I think they are just the most beautiful creatures. I am pretty sure I gifted this to someone for a baby gift but it has been so long ago I can’t remember. It was a pretty simple make.

The second amigurumi I made from her website was this minion. I made it for my son and he absolutely loved it. This was almost 4 years ago and he doesn’t really play with it anymore and still looks like it is in good shape so I would say he was fairly “gentle” with it.

So here we are with the Primrose Doll…..I was scrolling through Stephanie’s website and my daughter was by me and just fell in love with this doll. She asked me over and over to make it and I was hesitant. I never agreed to it and just thought maybe someday. Well one day I was at Michaels and I saw this yarn that I thought would work perfectly for the hair and it was on clearance for like $2. So I picked it up along with all the other supplies. I never told my daughter I got the stuff to make it because let’s be honest she probably wouldn’t leave me alone about it.

So she had a birthday last week on the 18th and I surprised her with this doll. In typical “me” fashion I decided to do it last second….as in the day before her birthday and finished it at 10pm…..but whatever…..anyways she loved it. She named it Hattie because “h” was the letter for show and tell that week and she was taking that doll to show and tell (yes my heart melted)…..

The doll was pretty simple to make….it definitely worked up easier than I thought it would. It looks so delicate I thought for sure it would take me much longer to do. The hair was what I was most afraid of not looking right but Stephanie provided a great diagram that made it pretty easy to follow.

My little girl was pretty happy and to be honest that makes it worth it. She has carried the doll around all over the place and it just makes me happy that she loves it.
