Home Build Journey // Tile Floors

At this point it is ridiculous that I am so far behind but I committed so I will continue. Can’t leave anyone hanging. Also it makes me appreciate all over again how much work and how far we’ve come. So today’s post is dedicated to our floor tile selection.

Now tile is a very personal design/style choice and I am sure some of what we picked is not everyone’s cup of tea AND THAT IS OK! This is what we picked because we loved it and it goes with the aesthetic of the house we are building. You always hope you won’t grow tired of it because it is such a hard thing to change.

Basement Bath 2: This is technically our son’s bathroom that we initially decided we would wait to finish but it was the first finished space in the whole house. We chose a “cement” looking hex tile with matching grout.

Laundry: I love buffalo plaid! It is one of my all time favorite classics. As you can see I have rubbed off on Mr. Fresh Knack as he dressed for the occasion. We grouted this to match the gray of the plaid design.

Powder Bath: We went for big and simple tile here. White tile with white grout. This will probably be one of the most used bathrooms since it is central to the hub of the home so the fewer the grout lines the better. There is more tile to come in this room but that will be shared another day………oh the suspense.

Mudroom/Breezeway: Kind of the same concept as above – this is the mudroom/breezeway coming off the garage. Let’s be honest it needs to hide some dirt/wear. We initially saw this tile when we were in the initial stages of brainstorming and loved it then. When we went back to pull the trigger months later, we landed on it again. It has just the right amount of “worn” look with gray and brown tones.

Master Bath: I have a bit of a thing with hex tile and loved this travertine we chose for our master bath. It has a great variation in color and veining in it. We will be doing a gray grout on this too to match the shower. The shower floor is cobblestone with the same travertine tile and it feels so good on the feet. The remainder of the master bath is going to turn into a winter project at this point.

Basement Bath 1: This is the girls bathroom and my favorite tile in the house. I don’t know how long ago I picked this out and knew it needed a place in our home. These smaller tiles feel the best under your feet in my opinion.

There is so much more to say when it comes to tile and installing it but I will spare you. We installed all the tile ourselves, except for the master shower. It is labor intensive and takes about 3 times longer than you think it does. Which is why we have a couple rooms left to be done….so more to come on tile in the future.
