A simple to construct pattern resulting in a sleek and modern look for the holiday season. This Modern Christmas Tree Wall Hanging will look great on those walls this year.
The Design Process
Inspiration
This design is a follow up to last years design The Christmas Tree Wall Hanging, although the concept is very similar the design is a bit different. I like the idea of having modern design in traditional holidays and it can be somewhat hard to find in the stores.
The Yarn
I chose to use a widely popular yarn for this project because I HATE when I make a pattern and the yarn called for is nowhere to be found, as a result I chose to use Lion Brand’s Wool-Ease Thick & Quick. This yarn can be found just about anywhere and creates a warm cozy look to a rather modern design.
Customization
While I opted for the Fisherman color for this pattern I also worked one up in the color Cilantro which was equally beautiful! Also in place of the wooden dowel you could round up some twigs out of your yard to give a bit of a rustic feel to the project.

Attach Ring
Using a darning needle attach ring across the 3 stitches remaining. Thread needle and insert through ring, insert needle through back of work and stitch, repeat this process until hoop is secured.
Insert Dowels
You will insert your dowels through row 2, 6, 10, and 14. For each row you will take your dowel and weave through the stitches.
Make Tassel (optional)
Cut 18 pieces 17″ long, and 1 piece 28″ long
Take 17 of the 18 strands and tie them at the middle point with the remaining 17″ strand.
Take the 28″ piece and use it to wrap the tails approximately 1 inch below where you knotted them together. Wrap several times, and then use a darning needle to thread the yarn tails down the middle of the tassel.
Attach to the tree as a “tree trunk”. Trim tassel to desired length.
