Hey all, comin’ in hot after a month of not posting anything! I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday season. All the kids are back to school and we are back into somewhat of a routine. I say somewhat because we have had some fun winter weather so far for 2020 which has ended in snow days and delays. Also my son had his tonsils out a few weeks ago so I played nurse to him for a couple weeks during his recovery. Now that those humongous things are out here is to hoping it helps him in the long run! Now lets get to the good stuff and this easy crochet plant holder.

Let’s talk about this easy crochet plant holder thingy majig…..yeah that is what I called it. It is hard coming up with catchy names. This pattern came as a customized request from a client (yeah I do that so hit me up). Anyhow I wasn’t intending on creating a pattern for this. There were plenty of them out there so I was just going to use a pattern that already existed (with permission to sell so cool it) and I made one. I made it only to find out that it didn’t work. Meaning I made it put one of my own potted succulents in it only to have it fall to the floor.

Now I don’t know the story behind the design or anything but it did not pass my test. If it didn’t work for me it won’t work for my clients that is for sure. So to my notepad I went to come up with a concept. It took a few attempts to get it right but I think I came up with something pretty cute. It is a great way to add some character to your walls. You don’t even have to put real plants in it. There are some pretty good looking fake ones out there. However if I can’t kill a succulent I bet you can’t either.

You will recognize this yarn as it is the Yarnspirations Bernat Home Dec yarn again. I told you I love this yarn, and I’m not afraid to show it. This project works up pretty quick, like 30 minutes quick. And you will be ready to get those plants off the counters and away from any creatures that may like to knock them over (meow). So here we go.

Materials:

• Yarnspirations Bernat Home Dec in Cream (72 yds)
• Crochet Hook Size 9mm M/N
• Wood Ring
• Stitch Marker
• Scissors
• Yarn Needle

Pattern Notes

This pattern holds a pot that is 3 7/8” wide in diameter and 3” tall. This pattern is worked up using 2 strands held together. The rounds in the pattern are unjoined rounds meaning you DO NOT slip stitch to the first stitch in the round. Turning chains do not count as a stitch. Place your stitch marker in the first stitch of each round to help keep track.

Abbreviations

• Ch – Chain
• St(s) – Stitch(es)
• Sc – single crochet
• Hdc – half double crochet
• Dc – double crochet
• Tr – treble
• Sc2tog – single crochet two stitches together

Gauge

4” x 4” = 8 sts x 10 rounds

Begin with a magic ring, ch1.
Round 1: Sc 8 in ring placing a stitch marker in first st. (8)
Round 2: Inc in each st. (16)
Round 3: *Inc in first st, sc in next st*; repeat from * around. (24)
Rounds 4-10: Sc in each st around. (24)

In the last st of round 10 you will ch1 and turn.

Row 1: Sc in same stitch as ch1 and in the next 10 sts, ch1, turn. (11)

Row 2: Sc2tog, sc in next 9 sts, Sc2tog, ch1, turn. (9)
Row 3: Sc2tog, sc in next 7 sts, Sc2tog, ch3, turn, (7)
Row 4: Tr, dc, hdc, sc, hdc, dc, tr, ch3, sl st back down to last st. (7)

Cut yarn leaving a 20 inch tail and fasten. Weave yarn tail up through the back of the ch3 so that your needle and yarn are at the top of the last row.

With your work facing your insert needle through wood ring, come back under the wood ring and through the next stitch. Repeat this process with your last pass through being the beginning ch3 from row 4. Secure your yarn and weave in all your ends!
