It’s Sunday and I hope you all are having a bit of relaxation! We survived a semi-drama free week over here meaning – no one is sick, like really sick. I say semi-drama free because there is always drama with 3 kids….always!
The 2-Way Street Hat has been finished for a couple weeks but I just didn’t feel right posting about fall/winter hats when it was 80+ degrees outside. I mean I know some are excited for the cooler weather but I don’t think anyone was so excited they would throw on a beanie and be drenched in sweat.
The idea behind this easy knit hat was to make it universal. Universal as in fit and style. So this hat fit the bill pretty nicely as it is made with an extremely forgiving rib stitch that will fit most people from younger kids to adults. Also, the hat can be worn 2 ways, slouchy and fitted. Simply roll up the brim to make it more snug if that is what floats your boat! This hat can be made in so many colors your possibilities are sort of endless!
Materials:
- Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors
- US 15 10.00mm Circular Needles 16″
- Stitch Marker
Gauge:
4” x 4” = 6 sts x 12 rounds
Finished Dimensions:
6.25” x 10.5” (when lying flat)
Abbreviations:
- K knit
- P purl
- st(s) stitch(es)
- * or ** repeat whatever follows the * or **
Pattern Notes:
This hat is worked in the round, from the bottom up. This pattern is One Size Fits Most, due to the ribbing, the sizing is very forgiving. However, the hat is easily customizable to make larger or smaller by decreasing/increasing cast on stitches by 2 and adding/subtracting rows to the desired height.
Pattern Instructions:
Cast on 36 sts using long tail cast on method.
Join, place marker at beginning of round, and begin to work in the round
Round 1: *K1, p1; repeat from * around.
Round 2-30: Repeat round 1
This is what your hat should look like after all rounds are complete.
Cut yarn leaving a 15 in. yarn tail and thread through yarn needle.
Thread yarn needle through loops on needles, remove needles once you have threaded the yarn tail through all the loops.
Pull yarn tail tight to cinch top of hat.
Secure yarn tail and weave in ends.
There you have it! That is it, I can usually get one of these made in about an hour, it depends on how fast of a knitter you are obviously. These would make great gifts if you are really on your game for the upcoming holidays!
