I happened to come across this great post of a crocheted “bib” necklace from the blog A Common Thread. I thought it was so elegant that I had to try it myself. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like using the cotton thread she used in the pattern so I went with something a little thinner that I already had on hand which was some red heart mercerized cotton. I used a size 3.25mm crochet hook. I purchased some bronze split rings and chains and away I went.
Since I don’t get a lot of time to do anything in peace with 2 little kids this was done after they were in bed and worked up in about an hour. I was so excited I had to wear it the next day! I received several comments on my necklace and some even thought that it was an applique that was a part of my shirt. It looks so much more delicate and lace like using the smaller thread. The only tip that I would provide is that you will want to connect each crocheted strand in the middle as they seemed to want to separate versus having a layered look.
